With the international deadline for transition from analog to digital broadcasting gets closer, here is some information about some of the digital tv providers we have at present in Uganda.

For those that are not aware, the International/Global deadline is June, 2015, whether Uganda will be ready or not – that is outside of my scope right now. But you can read this article published on the Daily Monitor website for some insights.

Currently, there are 8 or more Digital TV providers in Uganda – some you can readily get information about and some, you are probably going to hear of them for the first time!

  • DSTV
  • StarTimes
  • Pearl Digital TV - Little or no information at the time of this article
  • Kampala SITI Cable - Little or no information at the time of this article
  • Smart TV  - Little or no information at the time of this article
  • Time Watch Cable  - Little or no information at the time of this article
  • Zuku TV
  • GoTV
  • MoTV - Little or no information at the time of this article

Some have information readily available, others it was a little hard for me to get the information so I have to leave them out on the details below.

DSTV has 6 packages

  1. Dstv Premium which has 119 Channels – Including  the Local Ugandan Channels UBC, NTV Uganda, Bukedde TV and WBS.  
  2. Dstv Family which has 45 Channels – Local Ugandan channels, there is no WBS.
  3. Dstv Access which has 47 Channels -  Local Ugandan channels, there is no WBS.
  4. Dstv Compact which has 82 Channels - Including  the Local Ugandan Channels UBC, NTV Uganda, Bukedde TV and WBS.
  5. Dstv Compact Plus which has 84 Channels - Including  the Local Ugandan Channels UBC, NTV Uganda, Bukedde TV and WBS.
  6. Dstv EasyView which has only 3 Channels – Local Ugandan channels, there is only NTV Uganda UBC

DSTV EasyView now called FreeView is what you get when your subscription runs out. It originally had all the local Ugandan channels showing but now it is only UBC

GoTV

GoTv has only two Packages, GoTV which has 26 Channels, View Price and GoTV Plus that has 30 Channels both including the Local Ugandan Channels  UBC, NTV Uganda, Bukedde TV and WBS, View Price

StarTimes has 3 packages

  1. Basic Bouquet which has 35 Channels, including Local Ugandan Channels NTV Uganda, UBC, Record TV, NBS,WBS and Bukedde TV
  2. Classic Bouquet which has 47 Channels,  including Local Ugandan Channels NTV Uganda, UBC, Record TV, NBS,WBS and Bukedde TV
  3. Unique Bouquet which has 52 Channels, including Local Ugandan Channels NTV Uganda, UBC, Record TV, NBS,WBS and Bukedde TV

For Football fans, mainly the English Premier League, Only DSTV has got the rights to show the games in Africa/Uganda.
